Hardenability Note
Note: The Ms temperature is where austenite begins transforming to martensite on cooling. Below Mf, transformation is essentially complete. Low Ms = high alloy content = greater preheat need.

Andrews (1965) Linear Formula:
Ms (°C) = 539 - 423C - 30.4Mn - 17.7Ni - 12.1Cr - 7.5Mo
Mf ≈ Ms - 215°C
All values in wt%. Valid for C < 0.6%, low-alloy steels.
